grounded evening meditation

As the day comes to a close, it can be difficult to shift from doing to simply being. This evening body scan meditation offers a gentle way to release tension, reconnect with your body, and create a meaningful sense of completion before moving into the rest of your evening.

Listen to the full practice here (~16 min).

This episode is a recording from a live Journey You Own Meditation Gathering. As you listen, you may notice natural pauses and gentle references to the shared practice, reflecting the experience of meditating together in community.

The practice begins and ends with the sound of a bell, offering a gentle cue to enter and leave meditation.

The meditation starts by bringing awareness to the breath at the nostrils. You are invited to notice the texture and temperature of each breath as it moves through the nose and into the sinuses. Rather than changing the breath, the invitation is to become curious about the experience of breathing.

From there, awareness gradually expands through a gentle body scan. The practice invites you to soften areas where tension often accumulates throughout the day, including the eyes, forehead, temples, jaw, neck, and shoulders. With each breath, there is an opportunity to release unnecessary effort and allow the muscles to relax naturally.

Attention then follows the breath into the chest and lungs, noticing the movement of the ribs and the steady rhythm of inhalation and exhalation. Awareness continues into the lower back, abdomen, hips, and pelvis, encouraging you to sense both relaxation and alertness coexisting within the body.

The body scan concludes by bringing awareness into the legs and the soles of the feet. Feeling the support of the earth beneath you creates a sense of grounding, reminding you that you are held and supported in this moment.

Once the body has settled, the practice invites you to release mental activity and simply experience the body resting on the ground. From this quiet space, you are encouraged to reflect on what completion means for you today. You may choose to form an aspiration or intention that acknowledges the day as it was and gently prepares you for what comes next.

Rather than reviewing everything that happened, this meditation offers space to recognize completion through presence. The breath becomes a reminder that every ending also creates room for renewal.

Whether practiced before bed or at the close of your workday, this meditation offers an opportunity to pause, let go, and carry a greater sense of ease into the evening.

“Notice how making space to practice and complete your day is felt in your body.”

After listening, you might reflect on:

  • What helped you feel a sense of completion today?
  • Where did your body soften most during the practice?
  • What intention would support your transition into rest?
