What does renewed energy feel like when it is supported, rather than forced? This practice brings together grounding and expansion, inviting you to feel the steadiness of the earth below while opening to warmth and light above. It is a visualization for moments when you want to reconnect with your energy without losing your sense of solid ground.
Before you begin
A little context for the opening breath practice may be helpful. The hand position and white-and-rainbow light visualization come from a Tibetan Buddhist breath practice. You do not need any previous experience with it. The invitation is simply to follow the breath and imagery in a way that feels comfortable and natural to you.
Before starting the audio, it may help to become familiar with the basic movement:
- Rest your hands comfortably on your lap.
- Place each thumb at the base of your ring finger.
- As you inhale, gently close your hands and imagine breathing in white light.
- As you exhale, open your hands and visualize five-colored rainbow light moving outward.
- You will begin with several breaths using this pattern, then move into nine counted breaths. With each breath, allow yourself to settle a little more deeply into the body and soften some of the tension, concerns, or thoughts you may be carrying.
There is no need to see the colors clearly or perform the visualization perfectly. Let the breath be your anchor, and allow the imagery to be as vivid or as subtle as it naturally is for you.
Listen to the full practice here (~19 min).
This episode comes from a live Journey You Own Meditation Gathering, so you may notice natural pauses and gentle references to shared practice. Those pauses offer space to let the imagery and sensations settle without needing to rush.
At the heart of the practice is the experience of being both grounded and open. You are invited to imagine yourself at the edge of a forest, with bare feet meeting a grassy path and trees extending around you. The sensory details are yours to discover, including sound, scent, texture, warmth, and light. From there, the image deepens into roots reaching from the soles of your feet into the earth.
The roots offer steadiness. At the same time, the body rises like the trunk of a tree toward the warmth of the sun. Energy is drawn upward from the earth and received from above, creating a sense of being supported in both directions. Rather than choosing between stability and movement, the practice lets you experience both.
“Notice the experience of being supported by the earth below you, while receiving the energy of the sun above you.”
The visualization gradually becomes more internal. What begins as forest, earth, sun, and light is invited into the body itself, through the fingers, feet, and heart space. Eventually, the imagery gathers into a single brilliant point of light before even that is released into open awareness.
There is something useful in that movement. Sometimes we look outside ourselves for the thing that will restore our energy. This practice offers another possibility: allowing an external image of support and light to become a felt experience within, then discovering what remains when the image itself falls away.
The practice begins and ends with a bell as a gentle guide. At the close, you return to the same white-light and rainbow-light breath before coming back to the shared space.
After listening, you might reflect on:
- Where did you feel most supported during the practice?
- What changes when you allow yourself to feel both rooted and open?
- What image, sensation, or quality of light would you like to carry with you?

May you feel steady enough to receive what restores you, and open enough to let that energy move through you.
