Rooted in Awareness – Body Scan for Grounding and Intention

Many mornings begin in motion before we’ve truly arrived in the day. This meditation offers a way to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the ground beneath you, the rhythm of your breath, and the steady awareness that lives in your body.

Listen to the full practice here (~34 min).

The practice begins with three deep breaths to settle the mind and body. From there, you’re guided to find your center, feeling the support of the ground beneath you or the seat holding your weight. As you breathe, you begin to trace the natural flow of air through the body, noticing the sensations along its path: the coolness of the inhalation, the warmth of the exhalation, and the gentle rise and fall of your shoulders and abdomen.

From this foundation, the meditation unfolds into a full-body scan, beginning at the soles of the feet. You’re invited to connect with the energy of the earth, drawing it upward through your legs and spine. The guidance moves slowly through the body, inviting you to notice areas of tension and release them with each breath. As always, the practice begins and ends with a bell, a gentle cue to settle into presence and later return with awareness.

“Notice how the energy of the earth can enter that space and relax the muscles.”

As the practice deepens, the breath and the body become one continuous rhythm. You might notice the meeting point between the breath and the awareness of being grounded—where the energy from the earth and your own vitality meet. The session closes with an invitation to set an intention or aspiration for the day. How do you want to show up in your life, in your work, in your relationships?

After listening, you might reflect on:

  • What does being grounded feel like in my body?
  • How can I return to this grounded awareness during moments of stress?
